Many of us are familiar with battling the dreaded tangle of garden hose in our yard or garage, or having an unprotected hose burst or spring leaks. A hose reel can help cure these problems. Hose reels have evolved a lot over the years, from the basic crank reel to today’s fancy automated retraction models. <\/p>\n

The best retractable hose reel we tested is the Ayleid Retractable Reel. It’s easy to use, available in three lengths, and nowhere near as expensive as some of the premium models on the market, yet still performs great.<\/p>\n

If you’re not into the idea of a retractable reel, our favorite manual model is the Eley Wood Post Mount. This robust reel has a high-quality construction and is capable of holding a lot of hose (although the hose isn’t included; you’ll need to provide your own). <\/p>\n

While hose reels may be the evolution of the standard garden hoses, they are by no means the only option on the market. Whether it’s a more traditional garden hose you want for simplicity and durability, or a space-saving expandable hose for tight quarters like a boat or RV, there are lots of models and designs to choose from. <\/p>\n

    The Ayleid Retractable Reel was an impressive, high-performing hose reel packed with helpful features, and it’s also one of the least expensive hoses we tested. It checked all the boxes; it was easy to install and use, and it had ergonomic features and excellent spray performance. It was also easy to unwind, and it worked smoothly from all different angles. \u201cThis reel has great features that helped it stand apart from the others,<\/em>\u201d Hale Milano, our lead tester, said. \u201cI love the collapsing handle and integrated hose brush to clean off debris.<\/em>\u201d It comes in a variety of length options, ranging from 65 to 130 feet, so you can customize your hose reel to your needs. After all our testing, we found ourselves reaching back for the Ayleid because it worked well, with little extra thought or effort required. <\/p>\n

    Despite the many great attributes, the Ayleid<\/strong> has a few minor shortcomings that, while disappointing, we didn’t think impacted performance. The connectors on the hose aren’t as ergonomic as other models, which is fine if you plan to leave the reel in one spot, but might be aggravating if you plan on disconnecting and moving it frequently, whether to other spigots or for storage. Also, it lacks an O-ring, and we noticed that the connectors had a slight leak. We fully fixed this issue by adding a spare ring. Another consideration is the lack of a dedicated valve built into the hose. Valves are helpful when you need to swap nozzles or want to stop the flow of water to the hose without walking back to the spigot. Overall, we find this to be a high-performing, budget-friendly hose reel. Another high-performing and aesthetic option is the Hoselink Retractable Reel, which is perfect for permanent mounting in visible locations and includes two valves and excellent spray and nozzle performance. However, the price point is significantly higher. <\/p>\n
